From curiosity to self-confidence, student Fritzi shares her experience

Choosing a degree programme is an important step that shapes both your academic journey and personal development. For many students, it involves exploring interests, testing possibilities, and discovering where creativity and skills come together. Fritzi Hesse, a third-year student in Fashion and Textile Technologies, has followed this path with curiosity and determination. With a strong interest in both the creative and technical sides of fashion, she found a programme that allows her to develop her independence, collaborate with others, and continuously challenge herself. In this student spotlight, Fritzi shares how she made her study choice, what her experience has been like so far, and the lessons she has learned along the way.

When exploring her study options, Fritzi focused on her personal interests, strengths, and values. She reflected on her favourite school subjects and hobbies and sought advice from teachers, university graduates, and friends who were already studying. Attending Open Days and comparing different programmes also helped her gain a clearer picture of what each study had to offer.

Why Fashion & Textile Technologies?

Ultimately, Fritzi chose Fashion and Textile Technologies because it aligned best with what she was looking for. Participating in the “Student for a Day” experience gave her valuable insight into the programme, making her decision much easier. She especially appreciated the balance between the technical and creative aspects of fashion and the independence students have when working on projects.

Experiencing the Programme

So far, Fritzi feels the programme suits her well, although she admits that the workload can sometimes be intense. What she values most are the many opportunities to explore the field further, including volunteering experiences that complement her studies.

The higlights

One of the highlights of her studies is collaborating with students from other programmes and classes. Fritzi enjoys meeting new people and appreciates the flexibility of having ample time for self-study, allowing her to organise her work in a way that fits her personal schedule.

Learning process

Like many students, Fritzi faced challenges, particularly when it came to exam preparation and time management during her first year. Over time, she learned how to better balance assignments and deadlines. The most valuable lesson she has learned during her studies is to work independently and take responsibility for her own learning. She emphasises the importance of asking questions, seeking guidance from teachers, and starting assignments early.

Looking ahead

While Fritzi does not yet have a specific career goal, she knows she wants to be part of a team where she can contribute ideas and experiment with new concepts, regardless of the field.

Advice for future students

Be curious, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Engaging actively with your studies and the people around you can make your student experience even more rewarding.
