People-centred Technology

We conduct practical research into people-centred implementation and adoption of technology. We investigate how people and technology can enhance each other. For example, in robotics, AI and augmented reality. In addition, we investigate the impact of technology on organisational structure, quality of work, productivity and employee well-being. The line of research is led by Professor Paul Preenen and principal investigator Dr Niek Zuidhof.

Read here the public lecture 'Successful technology at work does not exist without people' by Professor Paul Preenen for our vision on people-centred technology.

Main research themes

This theme is about creating effective links between people and technology. It is about ensuring that the qualities of people and technology are mutually reinforcing. We do this, for example, in the context of robots, cobots, augmented reality and augmented reality applications. Our research provides concrete tools to help achieve this goal.

The aim of this line of research is to make a structural and significant contribution to the digital transformation of organisations. It focuses on systematic innovations and the people-centred implementation of technology through mutual optimisation of people, technology and organization.

What does digitalisation mean for the specific work and skills of employees? In this theme we examine the impact of technology on work design, organisations and people. For example, in the context of AI and Smart Industry.

Our projects

  • Smart Skills @ Scale
  • Integrated robotisation
  • Design to Design: Human-Cobot Units for Modern Manufacturing (PhD programme)
  • Setting up production cells with task-supporting technology (PhD programme)
  • Deployment of AI on the work floor
