Employability Transition
We conduct applied research at the interface of psychology and human resource management. We work on applied innovations in human capital which promote lifelong learning, inclusion and a people-centred approach to technology.
Our applied research work contributes to the creation of modern and attractive employment. For example, through interventions aimed at improving the quality of work. From practical advice on lifelong learning, to our people-centred approach to technology, to promoting inclusion and diversity. We specifically focus on SMEs and professional people.
Our research group consists of six (associate) professors and more than forty applied researchers, PhD students and post-docs. Click here to subscribe to our quarterly newsletter or follow us here on LinkedIn!

Our focus
This research group aims to use applied research to improve the quality of work and labour with lifelong learning being a given and where technology enhances people.
Inclusive Society
This line of research focuses on the sustainable employability of people with vulnerable labour market positions. We explore the potential of technology to harness the talents of people who are too often marginalised. This line of research is a joint project between Saxion University of Applied Sciences and the Verwey-Jonker Institute; it is led by Professor Ines Schell-Kiehl and Associate Professor Sjoerd de Vries.
Lifelong learning
This line of research focuses on achieving lifelong development in organisations through learning communities, attractive and effective HR(D) practices and career guidance. Within this track, we work on effective combinations of HR(D) practices that collectively encourage employees to learn and develop. The line of research is led by Professor Stephan Corporaal and Associate Professor Derk Jan Nijman.
People-centred Technology
We conduct practical research into the people-centred implementation and adoption of technology. We investigate how people and technology can enhance each other. For example, in robotics, AI and augmented reality. In addition, we investigate the impact of technology on organisational structure, quality of work, productivity and employee well-being. The line of research is led by Professor Paul Preenen and principal investigator (PI) Dr Niek Zuidhof.
By understanding where we can have the greatest impact on talent development, we can provide much more targeted, practical solutions for managers and employees.
How can we work together?
In TechYourFuture, various education and research groups from Saxion, ROC Twente, University of Twente and Windesheim join forces in shaping lifelong learning. Read more about TechYourFuture.
We collaborate with companies to attract and retain technical talent.
Within the TINT Apeldoorn network, a number of different parties are joining forces to make decent work accessible with the appropriate technological support. For example, in a learning community and in close collaboration with education and research groups from Saxion, Aventus, Lucrato, KIT, TNO. And with many companies in the Apeldoorn region, the ‘Stedendriehoek’ region and Technohubs in other regions.
