Many issues in the energy transition are about the design of a new and often circular, value chain. To make such a value chain viable, both the technical and economic feasibility needs to be tested. We regularly apply these techno-economic analyses in projects.
The complex interactions of components in an energy system means that its behaviour is not always easy to predict. We can use models combined with hardware and software simulations to provide insight into the expected behaviour and which regulation strategies are most suitable.
In order to embed a technology in society, small-scale pilot studies are needed first. Together with our sister research group International Water Technology, we provide support in the design and testing of pilot scheme installations on site that are relevant to the energy and raw materials transition.
