How do I survive the INTRO?

Or better said: how do you turn these three days into the perfect start of your student life? The INTRO is around the corner and that means one thing: your student years are about to begin. Exciting? Definitely. Fun? Absolutely. A bit overwhelming? Sometimes, yes. But no worries: with these tips you’ll make the most of your INTRO and you won’t have to walk around like a lost zombie.

Are you ALL INTRO?

You might think: “I only want to meet my program, so I don’t need a ticket.” But even then you need to sign up! Saxion uses a 0-euro ticket for everyone who only attends the mandatory part. Going for the full program (parties, activities, chilling, sleeping)? Then you pay just €50 – and believe us, it’s definitely worth it!.

Just Go!

The INTRO isn’t mandatory, but you’ll be crazy to skip it. It's the perfect moment to get to know your new classmates, better understand how your program works, and discover the city where you’ll live or study. All things that make your life so much easier and more fun later on. And no, nobody expects you to do crazy things in crazy outfits, but joining will be a nice expierence.

Sleep, eat, repeat

leeping during the INTRO is super practical and fun. You don’t have to catch the last bus home and you won’t miss out on the evening programs. Choose your sleeping city (Apeldoorn, Deventer, or Enschede) and book your spot on time. Saxion arranges everything, you just need to make sure you bring the right stuff. What you really shouldn’t forget? An air mattress (at some locations), earplugs, power bank, water bottle, and toothbrush.

" Hi, I'm.."

Everyone is new. So don’t feel awkward about introducing yourself for the hundredth time or starting a conversation with “Where are you from?” Trust us: one small chat on day one could easily be the start of a friendship that lasts for years. A nice thing to do is download the Goin' app. The app Goin' is a social platform for new students at Saxion. This is where you come in contact with other (international) students from the Saxion community. In Goin', you can join smaller groups with a shared interest and make your own community.

Go exploring

Take a walk around your campus during the INTRO, even outside your own building. Saxion is bigger than you think. And when you go into the city with your group, look up at the facades, little streets, and cozy coffee spots. It’s nice to already know where you can go or where to escape with a cappuccino later.

Ask for help

Having a rough moment? Don’t understand something? Or not feeling at home yet? Speak up. Your INTRO parents, guides, or the organization’s trusted contact person are there exactly for these moments. And if you ever feel socially unsafe, know where you can turn.
Personal Safety

Party smart

Another big part of the INTRO is, of course, partying. And yes, sometimes that includes embarrassing moments. Maybe you had one too many the night before, or you had a cosy night with someone who’ll be in your Monday class. Classic, sure – but how do you avoid these awkward situations? Drink responsibly, think about tomorrow, and enjoy yourself.

Stay Yourself

Not a party animal? That’s totally fine. The INTRO isn’t an audition for “most popular in class,” it’s your kick-off. Do what feels right for you, don’t feel pressured to join everything, and give yourself time. Student life doesn’t just start with partying – it starts with being yourself, and that’s more than enough!

The INTRO is the best start to your studies. 💚 Are you going ALL INTRO? Get your ticket NOW!
