Cyber Resilient Organisations

In this line of research we help public and private organisations increase their cyber resilience. Organisations run a high risk of becoming a victim of cyber incidents. Such incidents can have a major impact on the organisation and society. In addition, we help security organisations, such as the police, municipalities and their partners, to prevent and tackle online crime.

We help organisations to make their employees resilient to online crime and support security partners in preventing and tackling it.

Positive resilient behaviour

The balance between people, organisation and technology is crucial for a cyber-resilient organisation. The designation of people being the weakest link is no longer appropriate. People also have characteristics that can lead to greater cyber resilience, such as problem-solving skills and flexibility. We help organisations unlock this potential through positive resilient behaviour.

Our research

Through our research, we contribute to real practical improvements, by applying a design approach in many projects. Examples of projects in the Cyber Resilient Organisations research line include:

  • Cyber cavalry: A design study to improve the efficiency of incident response in SMEs.
  • Cyber resilience of municipal employees: we are researching working in a digitally secure way for various municipalities, with the aim for example, of more firmly embedding secure emailing in the organisation.
  • Increasing digital resilience of SMEs: We work in a consortium that strives to strengthen the digital resilience of SMEs.
  • Local Digital Expedition: Research into the perception of police officers in core teams regarding their role and how to fulfil it in the tackling of online crime.
  • PhD research on negotiating with ransomware criminals: Michalis Georgiou is doing PhD research at the Centre for Security and Digitalisation in collaboration with the University of Twente, Faculty of Behavioural, Management and Social Sciences (BMS).
  • PhD research on a learning culture concerning cyber resilience: Elif Özer is doing PhD research at the Centre for Security and Digitalisation in collaboration with the University of Twente, Faculty of Behavioural, Management and Social Sciences (BMS).
