Forms of collaboration and quality assurance
The Technology, Health & Care Research Group works together with end users (residents, clients, patients and professionals), partners in the field of care and welfare, students, lecturers, companies and other knowledge institutions on the development and implementation of research and products for the professional field, education and science.
How can we work together?
The Technology, Health & Care Research Group works together with end users (residents, clients, patients and professionals), partners in the field of care and welfare, students, lecturers, companies and other knowledge institutions on the development and implementation of research and products for the professional field, education and science.
We work with partners in the field, companies, social organisations in the healthcare, welfare and municipality domain, with students and citizens. We set up and implement joint projects. Would you like to start a research project with us? Get in touch and explore our goals, research ideas, and funding opportunities together.
Exchanging and sharing knowledge is important to us. Does your organisation or company’s interests coincide with one of our research themes? We would like to cooperate so we can share our knowledge at meetings, workshops, events or in a network.
Together with our partners, we ensure the development, evaluation and implementation of research, products and services for professional practice, education and science. We are happy to discuss opportunities for cooperation.
Collaborations
Since 2017, ROC Twente and Saxion have been working together on issues at the intersection of healthcare and technology through the practice group and research group.
The Care and Technology Practice Group is a collaboration between the College of People and Health (including MBO Nursing, Caring IH, Assisting Health Care and Social Care) and the College of Technology. Teacher-researchers Gerda Beukema, Ronald van der Burg, Iris Davina-Hudepohl, Theo Olthuis, Anne-Ruth Oosterbroek and Albert Schuurmans work together with education and practice to prepare MBO students as well as possible for their future profession.
In recent years, researchers from ROC Twente and Saxion have collaborated on:
- Development of the V-model for technology competencies.
- TOPFIT Citizenslab, in which citizens and patients collaborated on the further development and implementation of technology.
- Interdisciplinary student assignments at the interface of healthcare and technology.
We started the ZorgTechNext project in 2023 where we work with the professional field on the self-evidence of integrating technology into the action repertoire of students, lecturers and professionals.
Graafschap College and Saxion have joined forces to train students of care and well-being to become 'human-minded & tech-minded' professionals. These professionals have knowledge of ethical and other issues concerning technology and are able to make systematic considerations about how and under which conditions technology can be used in their daily work.
Innovation lecturers Frank Kockelkoren and Yvonne Weening are researching the interpretation of data from healthcare systems and the optimal use of healthcare technology, in close collaboration with the Technology, Health & Care Research Group and associate professor Marloes Postel. The results of both studies are reflected in education, as students get to work with healthcare technology in their education, practice interpreting healthcare data and learn about the ethical issues involved.
In 2023, we launched the 'XR hub in Health & Well-being'. We believe in a highly dynamic learning environment in which experimenting, innovating and collaborating with XR (Extended Reality) technology for education, research and practice are key to the health and well-being sectors.
Our mission is twofold:
- Embedding XR technology in education so that students are prepared for the challenges of ever-changing practice. We achieve this by making it part of our dynamic curriculum, in which authentic professional situations are key. We do this by being the meeting place for our students and lecturers.
- Leading the way in the application of the latest XR applications in the health and well-being sector. We achieve this by developing new relevant concepts together with stakeholders, and by researching the added value and effectiveness of XR technology in education and practice.
In recent years, investments have been made in strengthening the collaboration between Saxion, the University of Waterloo and the University of Alberta. In the coming years, we will be working together in the field of research, education and innovation in practice. The focus will be on reducing health inequalities, implementing technology and training future-proof professionals in healthcare and social work. This will take shape through joint research projects and the exchange of students and researchers.
To encourage the exchange of researchers, staff and (PhD) students, an Erasmus+ application was submitted and funding awarded in 2023 for mobility outside Europe. This will be used to give Saxion colleagues and students the opportunity to travel to Canada, but also to welcome colleagues from Canada here.
We welcomed our first guest from Canada in the autumn of 2023 for a seven week stay: Gaya Bin Noon, a PhD candidate at the University of Waterloo. Besides being a PhD student in technology supporting geriatric care, Gaya is also project coordinator for the Network for Aging Research. During her visit, she experienced how Saxion and the Netherlands as a whole, are working on her subject and where there are opportunities for more cooperation.
MedTech Twente 2030 is an action plan where the Twente MedTech cluster is working together to help the sector grow. Research is being done within the project into what kind of talent the MedTech companies need for the future and how we can educate and train this talent.
