Types of collaboration and quality assurance

The Technology, Health & Care Research Group works with end users (citizens, clients, patients and professionals), partners in the field of health and social care, students, lecturers, companies and other knowledge institutions to develop and implement research and products for the professional field, education and science.

How can we work together?

The Technology, Health & Care Research Group works with end users (citizens, clients, patients and professionals), partners in the field of health and social care, students, lecturers, companies and other knowledge institutions to develop and implement research and products for the professional field, education and science.

We work with amongst others health care and social work organisations, companies, local authorities, students and citizens. We develop and implement joint projects. Want to start a research project with us? Get in touch and we can explore goals, research ideas, and funding opportunities together.

Exchanging and sharing knowledge is important to us. Does your organisation or company’s interests coincide with one of our research areas? We want to collaborate and share our knowledge at meetings, workshops, events or within a network.

Together with our partners, we ensure the development, evaluation and implementation of research, products and services for professional practice, education and science. We will be happy to discuss potential opportunities for collaboration.

Collaborations

The research groups Care & Technology (ROC van Twente) and the Saxion research group have been working together since 2017 solving issues at the intersection of healthcare and technology.

The Care and Technology research group a collaboration between the School of Human & Health (including MBO Nursing, Nurse assistant, Pharmacy assistant, General Practitionar Assitant, Dentist assistant and Social Worker) and the College of Creative Technology and ICT. Lecturer-researchers work together with education and practice to ensure MBO students are well prepared for their future profession.

In recent years, researchers from ROC van Twente and Saxion have collaborated on:

Development of the V-model for technology competencies. TOPFIT Citizenslab, in which citizens and patients collaborated on the development and implementation of technology. Interdisciplinary student assignments at the interface of healthcare and technology.

In 2023 we started the ZorgTechNext project where we work together with partners in education and healthcare organizations to integrate technology into the curricula (both in school and in practice) and teach students, lecturers and professionals to acquire the relevant technology competenties.

Graafschap College and Saxion have joined forces to train health and social care students to become 'human-minded & tech-minded' professionals. These professionals have knowledge amongst others, on ethical issues concerning technology and are able to make systematic considerations about how and under which conditions technology can be used in their daily work.

In 2023, we launched the 'XR hub in Health & Well-being'. We believe in a highly dynamic learning environment where experimenting, innovating and collaborating with XR (Extended Reality) technology for education, research and practice are key to the health and well-being sectors.

Our mission is twofold:

  1. Embedding XR technology in education so that students are prepared for the challenges of ever-changing practice. We achieve this by incorporating it into our dynamic curriculum, which focuses on authentic professional situations. We do this by being a meeting place for our students and lecturers.
  2. Pioneering the adoption of the latest XR applications in the health and social care sector. We achieve this by developing new relevant concepts together with stakeholders, and by researching the benefits and effectiveness of XR technology in education and practice.

Recent investments have been made to strengthen the collaboration between Saxion, the University of Waterloo and the University of Alberta. In the coming years, we will be working together in the field of research, education and innovation in practice. The focus will be on reducing health inequalities, implementing technology and training future-proof professionals in healthcare and social work. This will take shape through joint research projects and the exchange of students and researchers.

To encourage the exchange of researchers, staff and (PhD) students, an Erasmus+ application was submitted and funding awarded in 2023 for mobility outside Europe. This will be used to give Saxion colleagues and students the opportunity to travel to Canada, but also to welcome colleagues from Canada here.

We welcomed our first guest from Canada in the autumn of 2023 for a seven week stay: Gaya Bin Noon, a PhD candidate at the University of Waterloo. Besides being a PhD student in technology supporting geriatric care, Gaya is also project coordinator for the Network for Aging Research. During her visit, she discovered firsthand how Saxion and the Netherlands as a whole, are working on her subject and where there are opportunities for more cooperation.

MedTech Twente 2030 is an action plan where the Twente MedTech cluster is working together to help the sector grow. Project research is being done into what kind of talent the MedTech companies need for the future and how we can educate and train this talent.
