Human-centred technology design

Research in the field of Human-centred Technology Design focuses on designing and developing technology that is tailored to users’ needs. Whether this involves patients, clients, caregivers or informal caregivers – we research and design solutions that are user-friendly, relevant and effective. Users are key, and that is why they are always part of the design process, for example through co-creation and user research.

Approach

Research starts with the articulation of a research question, a problem analysis and stakeholder analysis to identify relevant target groups. These consist of the intended technology user (patient, client, healthcare and social work professional, informal caregiver), technology experts (designer, developer, supplier, researcher) and other relevant stakeholders in the intended user's network (relatives, health care and social work institutions, charity associations, etc.). In line with the research question, subsequent research involves the end user in the design and development of the desired technology.

Intermediate and end products can have a variety of forms. These may include product requirements, personas, patient/customer journeys, advisory reports or prototypes (visual design, digital product, and/or a (partially) working physical product). Mock-up products can be used as research instruments for further development and implementation.

Collaboration?

All our projects are based on questions from practice. Are you working on human-centered technology design in the health care and social work? Or do you have an issue we can help with? We will be happy to discuss opportunities for collaboration! Please contact us.
