Human-centred technology design
The Human-centred Technology Design research line focuses on the design and further development of technology that is tailored to users’ needs. Whether this involves patients, clients, caregivers or informal caregivers – through our research we design solutions that are user-friendly, relevant and effective. Users are key, and that is why we always involve them in the design process, for example through co-creation and user research.
Approach
In this line of research the starting point is the articulation of a research question, a problem analysis and stakeholder analysis to identify relevant target groups. These consist of the intended user of the technology (patient, client, care and welfare professional, informal caregiver), technology experts (designer, developer, supplier, researcher) and possibly other relevant stakeholders in the intended user's network (relatives, care and welfare institutions, voluntary associations, etc.). In line with the research question, this line of research involves the end user in the design and further development of technology.
Intermediate and end products have different forms. It may concern product requirements, personas, patient/customer journeys, advisory reports or prototypes (visual design, digital product, and/or a (partially) working physical product). Intermediate products can be used as research instruments for further development and implementation.
