Starters Information
We are looking forward to welcoming you to Saxion University of Applied Sciences. You have chosen to study the Master ICT: Software Engineering. On this page you will find all the important information for a great start at Saxion! Keep an eye on the page until the last minute for possible changes.
Classes will start on Monday 1 September. Usually we’ll have classes on-site two days a week. During the other days of the week you’ll be working on your class project and preparing for classes. The exact weekly schedule will be published later.
During the first week of school only (1 September – 4 September) classes will take place on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
The list of holidays is available here. It’s not possible to take holidays in other weeks of the year. Why not put these in your calendar right away?
Books
We’ll email you a list of books and materials that you’ll be using during the first half of the year in July.
Laptop
Bringing a laptop is mandatory for participating in the programme. You will probably already have a laptop that is suitable for professional software development. We recommend that you bring one that has at least 16 GB of internal memory, 250 GB of SDD storage and wireless 802.11n. We recommend that the laptop has a suitably sized screen and a keyboard that is comfortable to you.
First week of classes (Monday 1 September till Thursday 4 September)
First and foremost: we're expecting to welcome you here on Monday the 1st of September 11:00, the first day of school, at Handelskade 75 in Deventer (room D3.35). Please mark, highlight, and underline this date in your calendar! If you have got any trouble attending, please let us know as soon as possible.
IMPORTANT: Our programme does not participate in the general Saxion introduction week (INTRO 2025), which is set up for bachelor’s students only. Please do not register for that event, or ask your money back if you already did.
We are however organizing our very own introduction activities starting on the 1st of September. We’ll get to know each other, the city, and together we’ll build a working prototype of an application for a real customer within one week!
The exact schedule for our introduction week will be sent to you in July.
Starting a study programme is always an exciting life event, and especially so when you’re doing it abroad! Saxion provides a pretty comprehensive ‘onboarding manual’ for international students new to The Netherlands. The Dutch government provides a useful website as well. In case of any questions about visa, housing or other international matters you can contact Saxion’s International Office.
