Functional Textiles
Functional textiles are having a major impact in a wide range of sectors: from fashion to technical applications. In healthcare, they are paving the way for smart clothing that can monitor vital signs, accelerate wound healing and provide therapeutic benefits. The integration of smart materials in textiles is bringing a new level of interaction between textiles and the environment, leading to improved user experiences and new applications.
In addition, functional textiles play a key role in safety and protection. Properties such as flame retardancy, high visibility and ballistic resistance are essential in industrial and military environments.
Our research group integrates electronics with textiles by using various production techniques such as knitting, weaving, printing and embroidery. This combination facilitates the integration of sensors and actuators into textiles, enabling a wide range of applications. The multidisciplinary collaboration within our research group leads to innovative concepts and products.
